UAE E-Invoicing 2027: How to Get Your ERP Ready (and Where AI Helps)

Quick answer

When does UAE e-invoicing start, and what changes in the ERP?

Mandatory UAE e-invoicing starts on 1 January 2027 for businesses with revenue of AED 50 million or more, and on 1 July 2027 for the rest. Your ERP must produce structured invoice data with valid TRNs, VAT and codes, sent through an Accredited Service Provider. AI can check the data first and explain rejections.

Where AI fits in UAE e-invoicing: checking ERP data before it reaches your ASP, and explaining rejections.

The UAE Ministry of Finance has confirmed a phased rollout of mandatory e-invoicing. Invoices between businesses will have to be issued and exchanged electronically in a structured format through Accredited Service Providers (ASPs). For most companies this is an ERP project first and a tax project second.

The timeline

PhaseWhoAppoint an ASP byMandatory from
1Businesses with revenue of AED 50 million or more30 October 20261 January 2027
2Businesses with revenue below AED 50 million31 March 20271 July 2027
3Government entities31 March 20271 October 2027

Most small and mid-sized manufacturers and traders fall into Phase 2. That leaves time, but ERP changes, supplier onboarding and testing take longer than most teams expect.

What changes in practice

  • Structured data, not PDFs: invoices must be produced as structured electronic data with the required fields, not just a PDF attached to an email.
  • Exchange through ASPs: invoices travel between your ASP and your customer's ASP, with tax data reported to the authority.
  • Master data quality: customer and supplier TRNs, addresses and product classifications must be correct, or invoices will be rejected.
  • Incoming invoices: you will also receive structured invoices, which makes automated matching and posting far easier.

ERP readiness checklist

  1. Confirm which phase applies to your group entities.
  2. Ask your ERP partner whether your version (SAP S/4HANA, Business One, Dynamics, Odoo, Tally or other) has a supported e-invoicing connector.
  3. Shortlist and appoint an ASP before the deadline for your phase.
  4. Clean customer and supplier master data, especially TRNs.
  5. Map invoice fields from your ERP to the required format and test with the ASP.
  6. Plan how rejected invoices will be handled and corrected.

Where AI helps

  • Master data clean-up: AI compares customer and supplier records against trade licenses and VAT certificates and flags mismatches for review.
  • Pre-validation: an agent checks each outgoing invoice for missing or inconsistent fields before it reaches the ASP, reducing rejections.
  • Incoming invoice automation: structured supplier invoices can be matched to POs and goods receipts automatically and posted with approval.
  • Arabic and English: AI handles bilingual supplier documents during the transition, while some suppliers still send PDFs.

Neighboring markets

If you also trade in Saudi Arabia, ZATCA's Fatoora e-invoicing is already being rolled out in waves. A single ERP integration layer that handles both formats saves duplicate work.
